FAQs

We regard an illness or accident as serious if it can be associated with any of the following points:
- Requires hospitalisation for at least 24 hours (a stay in the emergency department is considered hospitalisation)
- The illness justifies having to stay in bed/rest and not engage in any professional or private activity.
- Diagnosis of cancer (or other disease) that requires active treatment on the dates of the trip.
- Common or minor illnesses diagnosed and which, in our medical team's opinion, contraindicate travel.
In this case, Occident covers:
- The cost of transporting the ambulance to the nearest hospital or emergency centre.
- The prior check by the medical team who will be in contact with the doctor attending the insured party.
- The costs of transfer to hospital or home. If the case is very serious, a special medical plane will be used if the injured or sick person is in Europe or Mediterranean countries, and a regular aeroplane or another faster means of transport when the person is in the rest of the world.
We consider COVID-19 as any other disease. Therefore, our healthcare coverage includes COVID-19, either for medical or hospital care, diagnostic tests, transfers or early return, among others. In addition, COVID-19 is included in the event of cancellation and interruption of travel.
Occident offers specific travel insurance for students of academic or Erasmus courses, either in the country of primary residence or abroad, with the best coverage and capital of the market. These include a coverage for medical expenses of €1,000,000 that will give you the peace of mind you need. In addition to the following specific coverage:
- Cost of rehabilitation or physical therapy
- Visit in person with a psychologist
- Optician expenses due to accident
- Return of the insured party to their place of origin by medical transport
- Reimbursement of luggage shipping expenses to the insured party's home address
- Civil liability €60,000
